St. Basil, one of the four great Doctors of the East, was born at Cappadocia in Asia Minor. He became a monk and
combated the Arian heresy with great zeal. He wrote the famous Basilian rule of monasticism and framed the Basilian Liturgy. He
died in 379. We celebrate St. Basil the Great Day on January 2.
