The word of God has never come into the world without a face.
In the record of Scripture, God always chose a person to go with the message.
The lector is presenting the human face of God’s revealing word.
As one lector puts it, “I try to empty myself so I can be open to
whatever God wants to communicate through me.” And when the lector proclaims the Word of God the whole assembly
sees that the human face of God is one we are
invited to present to the world.
Lectors schedules are created in advance to proclaim the scripture
at Mass. If you are unable to serve, you are responsible for arranging a replacement.
Training and mentoring is provided for lector
candidates. A love of scripture is required to be
a Minister of the Word. For more information
