We at St Basil the Great are dedicated to sharing our faith with our parish family. A faith journey is lifelong and begins with our Baptism. By living the Word and sharing your faith you make it stronger. As Pope Francis eloquently stated, “Life grows when we give it away.” As does faith. Children need a solid foundation of faith and here at the Parish of St Basil the Great, we help lay that foundation. But we cannot do it alone. While we may be the building blocks the family is the cement that holds it all together. Growing in faith and forming a lasting relationship with Jesus is the ultimate goal. Being part of a community in Christ is a blessing.
Thank you for joining us in bringing the love of Christ to the children.

Yours In Christ,Our program is staffed completely by volunteers – Catechists – who donate their time and talents. All classes are taught on-site and all teaching materials are provided. A Catechist is anyone called by God who has the desire to share her/his faith with others in catechesis. There is no age limit, just an ability to teach and a commitment to the ministry. A Catechist must be a practicing Catholic who has received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. If married, the Catechist must be married in the Catholic Church. The Catechist must also have the basic knowledge of our faith and the ability to share that with the students.
The St. Basil Religious Education program has a whole year calendar of activities. Classes take place generally from September to June and require approximately two hours of teaching time plus one to two hours per week in preparation time. The Catechist should be open to attending meetings and workshops for spiritual development, and training (you cannot share what you don't have, so the Office of Religious Education provides input and opportunities.)
If you feel called to this ministry, we invite you to join us every Sunday, located at St. Basil's School from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Religious Ed classes end with 11:30am mass.
Religious Education Mission Statement
Guided by the Holy Spirit, the St. Basil Religious Education Program is committed to providing opportunities for spiritual growth with and for the community, in partnership with the parents and adults of St. Basil the Great Catholic Church. We strive to produce an environment of ongoing conversion where faith journeys are initiated and nourished into mature discipleship through a loving relationship with our God through Jesus Christ.
St. Basil recognizes parents as the primary catechists of their children. Our parish strives to partner with parents in the process of forming faith in their children. Sunday classes are held for our parish children in Grades 1st-8th, which include classes to prepare children for the Sacraments of First Eucharist, First Reconciliation, and Confirmation. St. Basil's Religious Education program welcomes all baptized and non-baptized children/youth to participate in its Religious Education Program.
Preparation for receiving First Eucharist and First Reconciliation is in a 2-year preparation process 1st and 2nd-grade level. Confirmation is also a 2-year Preparation process. Confirmation begins in the 7th Level (1st year Class) and 8th (2nd-year Class) Confirmation is celebrated at the end of the 8th Level. RCIC process is provided for youth baptized and non-baptized that have not received these sacraments. Sacrament Classes are on Sundays at the same time as the regular grade levels.
