The 2024 annual "Friends of the Poor" Walk
Thank you to our clergy, parishioners and St. Basil School students & Teachers for participating in the 2024 Friends of the Poor Walk. We "walked one mile in their shoes" within the school yard on Thursday, September 19th. We raised $3247 to fund our programs that bring compassionate care to those in need throughout Vallejo.
See more photos in our photo album below.
Thanks to all who purchased a Benefit for the Poor Raffle Ticket.
The Maui Trip winner was: Shirley Henderson
St. Basil Conference sold $1620 worth of tickets. Those proceeds will be used to help our neighbors here in Vallejo.
Help us fill our collection bins any weekend! We can always use non-perishable items for our emergency food boxes (non-expired please). We can always use items like tuna, spaghetti sauce and noodles, and canned vegetables and soups. However, there are some items we cannot purchase from the Food Bank - like jelly, mayonaise, mustard and salad dressing that would greatly supplement our emergency food boxes. Would you kindly consider picking up an item or two to put in our collection bins in the Msgr. Byrne Room? We pray that all our benefactors and those we help, will be blessed beyond measure.
Thank You! St. Basil Parishioners and School Families
For your on-going donations to our Food Assistance and Special Holiday Programs in 2023. In this year we distributed 305 emergency food boxes, 49 Easter meals & baskets, 50 Thanksgiving meal boxes, and 65 Christmas meal boxes with gifts for children to families in need in Vallejo. A special thanks to St. Basil School Parents who made the holiday deliveries and Simbang Gabi Ministry that provided 650 pounds of food items for our emergency food and Chistmas boxes. May God be your reward.
Emergency Food Assistance
We can provide assistance with emergency food if you live in Vallejo or near the border in American Canyon. We have limited volunteer resources, so can only assist each family once every three months.
Please call 707-644-0376 to leave a message. It is our only way to contact you, so speak slowly and clearly. A volunteer will call you to make an appointment for food delivery. **We recommend you add our phone number to your contact list so you know it is us returning your call.
Due to budget constraints, we can only provide referrals to other agencies for utilities or rent assistance.
The St. Basil Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul ("SVdP") sees as its mission to serve anyone in need through a direct person-to-person food delivery program, helping clients to become self-sufficient, and consistently treating all our clients with dignity and respect. Our primary goal is acting out our faith by providing loving and compassionate interest in individuals in need. It is in loving others where the contact with Christ emerges.
Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Fr. Garrigan Room. All are welcome! Call 707-644-0376 to leave a message or email us at [email protected].
SVdP plans and provides special dinner baskets for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Christmas also includes a "Giving Tree" which allows the entire parish to participate in supplying needed gifts for the children of the families we serve. An Annual "Walk for the Poor" fundraiser supports our work to continue delivering emergency food to the needy of our community.
Every 4th Saturday between 8:30am - 10:30am, our St. Basil Conference provides laundry assistance to the homeless and needy at Launderland Wash & Dry located at 627 Tennessee St. in Vallejo. Service is limited to one load of wash and two small loads to dry per person. Participants are responsible to load their clothing to the washers and dryers. We provide the detergent, fabic softener and funds to start the machines. There is usually free clothing and hygiene items provided by SVdP members. Food is also available, provided by Vallejo Together or Catholic Daughters Court 2525 (CDA).
Vallejo Adult School students can receive food assistance from SVdP every Monday that school is in session. For more information about enrolling in Vallejo Adult School, see their website: www.vcusd.org/vrec.
SVdP partners with Missionary Families in Christ every other month on the 3rd Sunday to provide a delicious hot meal for the Sparrow Project at the First Baptist Church located at 2025 Sonoma Blvd (enter at Carolina St). Meet there at 3:30pm to help or 4:30pm to eat.
A heartfelt thank you to all the parishioners and school families who donated food, turkeys, and whole hams, and gifts for our St. Basil Conference Holiday programs. We delivered 51 meals with Easter baskets, 50 Thanksgiving meals and 71 Christmas meals to local needy families. Generous St. Basil School and Pre-school families and St. Basil parishioners donated food items for the food boxes. This included Christmas gifts for 162 children. Simbang Gabi Ministry members gathered 550 pounds of food for us! We could not do it without you. May God be your reward.
Thank you!!
